Labor Management Model in Layer Poultry Farming in Kaluppang Village, Maiwa District, Enrekang (A Case Study of Smallholder Poultry Farms)

This study analyzes the labor management model in a layer poultry enterprise in Kaluppang Village, Maiwa District, Enrekang Regency, focusing on labor utilization patterns, compensation systems, and factors influencing local labor participation. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through interviews, observations, and documentation involving 30 farm workers. The findings indicate that the enterprise implements a mixed labor model consisting of 70% permanent workers and 30% contract workers. The labor composition is dominated by workers from Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi (80%), while local workers account for only 20%. The low participation of local workers is influenced by perceptions that poultry farm work is physically demanding, dirty, and less prestigious, as well as the availability of alternative livelihoods. The compensation system for permanent workers includes wages based on the number of chickens managed, rice allowances, meal allowances, and the right to manage proceeds from chicken manure sales. The study recommends improving local workers' skills and enhancing the incentive system.
